We were delighted to be able to support Falkirk Foodbank with donations of food and our time as volunteers, but where we have really been able to add value is in assisting them with their accounts and some marketing support. Falkirk Foodbank is the 2nd largest in Scotland, run by an army of volunteers, and aims to provide nutritionally balanced food for 3-4 days to those in need. Families or individuals access the service through referrals from approved agencies such as Social Work, Benefits Agency, Citizen Advice Bureau as well as other charities and churches. The main reason for referrals is benefit delay followed by benefit changes, homeless and low income. This year they have managed to deliver food to over 6000 people and because of the very generous food donations they have been able to increase the size of the food parcels to 6 days. Working with local manufacturers like Malcolm Allan and Oliphants Bakery they are now also able to supply fresh produce as well. Currently they supply approximately 5.6 tonne every month! For more information on the Falkirk Foodbank, email firstname.lastname@example.org or email@example.com

Chancellor Osbourne has announced that he will unveil an emergency budget on 8th July, his second in four months. In this budget we expect him to lay out in more detail how he plans to implement the key changes laid out in the Conservative election manifesto. These will include plans to raise the tax free personal allowance, to raise the higher rate tax threshold and his long awaited plans to increase the inheritance tax threshold. We also expect to see the details of how the Chancellor will make the £12 billion a year savings from the welfare bill whilst protecting the most vulnerable in society.
As always, Drummond Laurie will keep you fully updated with all of the changes announced and how they will affect you. If, in the meantime you would like a chat about this or any other financial matters, please email firstname.lastname@example.org

The Employment Allowance allows employers to reduce the amount of employer’s Class 1 National Insurance contributions (NICs) payable by up to £2,000 for each tax year beginning with 2014-15. Most employers can claim the relief although there are some notable exceptions which include businesses doing more than half their work in the public sector or, service companies with only deemed payments of employment income under ‘IR35 rules’.
There are some complex rules for employers with multiple payrolls or groups of companies.
The Employment Allowance can be claimed at any time during the tax year via your payroll software.
Even if you have ‘missed the boat’, all is not lost. You can make a claim up to 4 years after the end of the tax year to which the Employment Allowance applies. For example, a valid claim for the Employment Allowance for the tax year 2014-15 must be made by the 5 April 2019, although clearly it makes sense to make the claim as soon as possible
Drummond Laurie can help you with this, for more information please contact Gillian Niven, email@example.com or 01324 441280.
