Drummond Laurie Chartered Accountantsmary jenWe are very sad to be saying cheerio to Jennifer Buchanan, who’s heading to Cork in Ireland with her family but we are also delighted to welcome back to work this week, Mary Jack, who now returns after a year at home since the arrival of her second son Oscar.

Jennifer and Mary, great friends as well as colleagues, worked together for many years and were hoping to do so again but this time their paths have only crossed for one day!

Good luck Jennifer with your move and good luck Mary with managing to get your boys sorted out and making it to work in one piece!

Meet our new Interns…

By | Blog | No Comments

Drummond Laurie Chartered AccountantsWe are delighted to be able to introduce our two Summer Interns to you, Gemma Ramsay and Kelly Dawson.  They are here with us for a few months and it is their first real insight into a professional accountancy practice.  They have both just completed their 3rd year at Stirling University.

The internship is of benefit to us all.  Students can determine if they have an interest in an accounting and finance career and start to create a network of contacts. As an employer we are able to assess how they interact with our clients and other members of staff. On completion of their degree they may continue employment with us as a trainee accountant. They will then already know our firm, have good knowledge of the way we work and be able to hit the ground running….

We’ll keep you updated with their progress throughout the summer and let you know how they fair after a night out with us all!

Milk Quota

With many dairy farms struggling with the current milk price, the abolition of milk quota in March this year could give some farmers a much needed boost.

cowsAny quota purchased previously can now be treated as a capital loss and set off against gains on assets sold such as land and buildings. The loss should be recorded in their 2014/15 Income Tax Return and carried forward until utilised.
