Marathon Success

Drummond Laurie Chartered AccountantsOur very tired but extremely happy marathon runners returned to work today together with their medals!

Congratulations to George, Ann & Gillian on all completing their first Marathon.

Here’s Gillian’s thoughts:IMG_3745

“Up very early, eating kedgeree (good carbs!), it was going to be a long day, we left home at 6:45am and headed to Prudential in Stirling to get the transfer to Blair Drummond Safari Park where we were due to start at 9.10am.  What an atmosphere at the start line, over 6000 runners, music blaring out Big Country, The Proclaimers and Runrig getting everyone really excited and raring to go!

We set off through Doune, Dunblane and then Bridge of Allan, the support was amazing, there were kids handing out sweets, water and we were high fiving all over the place!  Before we knew it we were at Stirling University which was great as this was the halfway point.  We then headed towards the town centre where again the supporters were out in numbers and there were buses with music playing to spur you on during the last 9 miles. Once in the town you had to run 2 and half laps to make the mileage up to 26.2 miles, this is where it got really tough as you had to pass the finish line twice before you were allowed to finally run through it!

All in all, it was a brilliant day, the weather was great for running, the scenery was amazing and the support was incredible.  My first but maybe not my last!”

Drummond Laurie Chartered Accountantshaldane2Our client Haldane Construction has scooped two prestigious Master Builder Awards, taking the prize for best New Home and best Kitchen Project at the Federation of Master Builders’ (FMB) Scotland ceremony.

Now in its 13th year, the Master Builder Awards continues to be a flagship for high-quality building work. Organised by the FMB, the awards programme is unique in that any project entered by the builder must be backed up by the customer – giving home owners the opportunity to support those building companies that have delivered exceptional results.Haldane

Haldane Construction was selected by Scotland’s judges to win the best New Home Award and best Kitchen Award, and will now go through to compete in the national finals for the chance to win the UK category title. The ceremony will be held at the Intercontinental Park Lane Hotel in London on 15th September 2017 and will be hosted by TV presenter and building enthusiast Nick Knowles.

Well done Andrew and the team at Haldane Construction, you should feel justly proud of your achievement in winning and we wish you every success in the national competition.

Drummond Laurie welcomes ICAS President

By | Blog | No Comments

Drummond Laurie Chartered AccountantsIMG_3663 (2)We were delighted to be the first member firm to welcome Sir Brian Souter this morning at our offices in Grangemouth in his new role as President of ICAS.  Brian had recently said that it was his intention during his year in office to visit some of the smaller member firms, recognising that these are not only the backbone of the Institute but also the backbone of businesses the length and breadth of the country.  Everyone at Drummond Laurie appreciated the visit and takes inspiration from Brian’s own great success, coming as it has from humble origins.  Brian clearly has ambitious plans for the coming year and we wish him and everyone else at ICAS the very best in achieving these.

Supporting in our Community

hospiceDrummond Laurie Chartered AccountantsLast Sunday we were delighted to be able to support the Hospice at the Judy Murray lunch.  We saw it as a great opportunity to invite some of our clients who enjoyed a lovely Sunday Lunch and chat from Judy Murray, an inspirational woman who is a fantastic ambassador for tennis in Scotland and for women in sport too.  Her story was both touching and humorous.Judy25

marathonThis month will see a few more of our team supporting the Hospice when they take part in the first ever Stirling Scottish Marathon on 21st May.  If you’re around that day, please come and support all of the runners, who are putting themselvesrotary through the 26 miles for pleasure or to raise funds for their chosen charity of which there will be many on the day.

We’re also supporting the local Swimarathon in Grangemouth with Rotary in early June. Our team of 6 people will swim in relay for 55 minutes aiming to complete as many lengths as possible. The Swimarathon raised £8500 last year that went to supporting sick, disabled and disadvantaged youngsters aged 18 and under in the Falkirk area.

Our team here continue to fundraise, usually it involves food of some sort!  We had another successful soup day this week, with a cake day planned for the end of May.   On Sunday 14th May at 11am in the Park Hotel in Falkirk we’ll be having a coffee morning with some delicious cakes on offer plus raffles and other fun stuff.   Tickets are £5 on the day, children are free and everyone is welcome.
