We have become aware recently of an increase in scam telephone calls, where individuals are told that they owe money to Her Majesty’s Revenue & Customs (HMRC) for unpaid taxes, or advising that deadlines have been changed and payment is due immediately.
Some websites, emails or phone numbers can look like they are part of an official 
government service, or that they provide more help than they actually do.
HMRC will never use phone calls, texts or emails to;
- Tell you about a tax rebate or penalty
- Ask for personal or payment information
You should never give out private information (such as bank details or passwords), reply to text messages, download attachments or click on any links in an email, unless you’re sure they’re genuine.
