Our very tired but extremely happy marathon runners returned to work today together with their medals!
Congratulations to George, Ann & Gillian on all completing their first Marathon.
Here’s Gillian’s thoughts:
“Up very early, eating kedgeree (good carbs!), it was going to be a long day, we left home at 6:45am and headed to Prudential in Stirling to get the transfer to Blair Drummond Safari Park where we were due to start at 9.10am. What an atmosphere at the start line, over 6000 runners, music blaring out Big Country, The Proclaimers and Runrig getting everyone really excited and raring to go!
We set off through Doune, Dunblane and then Bridge of Allan, the support was amazing, there were kids handing out sweets, water and we were high fiving all over the place! Before we knew it we were at Stirling University which was great as this was the halfway point. We then headed towards the town centre where again the supporters were out in numbers and there were buses with music playing to spur you on during the last 9 miles. Once in the town you had to run 2 and half laps to make the mileage up to 26.2 miles, this is where it got really tough as you had to pass the finish line twice before you were allowed to finally run through it!
All in all, it was a brilliant day, the weather was great for running, the scenery was amazing and the support was incredible. My first but maybe not my last!”
