Last week we said goodbye to our summer interns Mia, Max & Cameron – who have spent the summer months with us gaining a very valuable insight into the world of accountancy. At Drummond Laurie we are committed to providing opportunities for young people to learn and develop their own skills. We always strive to ensure they enjoy a meaningful & enjoyable learning experience with us, which is planned months in advance of them joining our team.
Below are some of the benefits of offering internships: 1. Helps you gain practical experience in a role. 2. Looks good on your CV. 3. Gives you access to your chosen industry. 4. Allows you to decide whether the job is right for you. 5. Allows you to make contacts and build relationships for the future. 6. Let’s you develop your own skills. 7. Prepares you for Graduate roles. 8. Gives you practical experience to enhance discussions at interviews. 9. And FINALLY, it could lead to a permanent role. Here’s what some of our interns had to say about their experience with us over the summer: Max – “From my first day I have felt that the work I do is important, and that once complete, adds value to the firm which has drove me to produce work of a high standard. Not only does a student gain knowledge from the internship but I would say that it is also a rewarding experience in the sense that I have felt very valued during my internship and that my contributions were appreciated. Meeting different people and hearing their accounting journey is informative and can help you set a goal for yourself to get to. These conversations can also clear up any worries or queries you may have about the future.” Mia – “What surprised me most was how much work I was given – I expected to get almost zero responsibility, since I had so much to learn, and I expected be training most of the time – however actually getting to draft accounts on my own was such a great experience I never expected that I would be doing this. It was great to feel like I was actually being useful! I would certainly recommend an accountancy internship to others; I think it has been so helpful alongside the theory taught in a university course. I felt I learnt a lot of skills as well that I didn’t even know I lacked, like professional skills and other skills like using Microsoft office more efficiently.” We are very proud to say that many of our current team joined us initially as summer interns. Thank-you to Mia, Max & Cameron for your very valuable contribution to our business over the busy holiday period. Please also keep an eye on our website over the next couple of months as we open up our vacancies for 2024. Next week, we are joined by three new graduate trainees just starting out in their careers, more to follow on that shortly.
